Help from Our Philadelphia Medical Devices Lawyers
In 2010, Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy recalled two versions of
its metal-on-metal hip implants amid increasing evidence of high failure
rates and related medical problems.
Now, Golomb & Honik, P.C. is investigating complaints that another
popular DePuy hip implant, the all-metal Pinnacle model, is experiencing
a similarly high failure rate and contributing to health problems that
necessitate revision surgery. If you think you might have a case, we encourage you to

All-Metal Hip Implants
Like the voluntarily recalled DePuy ASR and ASR XL hip implants, the Pinnacle
model is a metal-on-metal system used as a hip replacement for patients
with damaged or diseased hip joints caused by fractures, osteoarthritis,
rheumatoid arthritis or avascular necrosis (AVN).
As reports of failure and painful side-effects associated with Pinnacle
hip implants continue to increase, so do allegations of defective design
and failure of DePuy to warn patients about potential complications.
Hip Implant Complications
In all-metal hip implants such as Pinnacle, metallic debris is thought
to scrape off with movement and be absorbed by the bloodstream. This breakdown
may contribute to hip implant failure and lead to elevated chromium and
cobalt levels.
Other complications associated with metal-on-metal hip implants include:
- Bone deterioration
- Decreased mobility
- Difficulty sitting and standing
- Inflammation and swelling
- Joint dislocation
- Pain

Although no recall has been issued for the DePuy Pinnacle system, it is
advisable to contact your physician and consult with a product liability
attorney experienced in
dangerous medical devices if you are a Pinnacle recipient. Patients who experience complications
from metal-on-metal hip implants typically require revision surgery to
remove the faulty product.
